Kwikset trouble

I have been having some trouble picking a kwikset that my friend got for me. We took it apart and the pins were uneven and we had to replace them. But, it still won't unlock, there aren't any spools (as we suspiciously checked) and they are just regular pins, any tips when picking kwiksets?

If you are referring to different lengths........... thats how its supposed to be there, skippy.
Search this site for kwikset, they tend to have a reputation for sloppiness, so picking is usually not too tough.
