fake pin

Postby Grandjo » 19 Mar 2015 13:21

Sorry if i post twice i'm new and dont my previous post ??

To be brief it happened a couple of time with different padlock and eurolock that i feel like only setting the last or the two last pin open the lock. I dont apply any pressure on the wrench while i insert the pick and i'm pretty sur that i dont accidently set the front pins. It seem like some pins are fake like if they dont have driver pin to block.actually it cant be that i feel the pressure.

Any explanation ?

My explanation is: a cheap lock.

I have a padlock that I only have to stick a bogota into is a little bit, probably just lifting the first pin, and it will open.

I also have one that doesn't require a pick at all. There is so much slop in it that pins do not matter. Even if you do not pick the pins, the plug is so loose, that turning it with your tension wrench will still pop the shackle open.

Perhaps stuck upper pins due to grit and grime in the lock. But sloppy tolerances and cheap locks can also lead to this.

At first i tought i was unprotected but it actually cant be open with a shank without applying little pressure with a wrench. Masterlock are really tough on impact but are indeed weak on picking, wouldnt say cheap but not entirely made against lockpick.
an eurolock is a doorlock so i would doubt (or hope) that they are not as cheap as a padlock.

I still have difficulty seeing in my head even with the "cheapness factor in mind" that if i take a hook picks and really be carefull just to set le last pin it open the lock.
thanks

Then I would agree with Berget, some of the pins may be sticking.

I have a couple of Master Locks padlocks (#1 and #3 mainly) and cheap copies of MasterLock designs where I just take a hook, lift the rearmost pin and then lift the shaft and the things pop open. This is the nature of cheap locks. Simple bitting patterns combined with poor workmanship means that pins stick, pins work themselves into the shearline and all sorts of weird things happen that make it almost painfully easy to pick them open.

I have a 6 pin EXCEL lock that I only need to raise the last pin and it pops the lock (took forever to figure out how to open it)
