A few locks I was asked to get the cores out of...

Postby GWiens2001 » 15 Feb 2015 20:56

Was at my favorite lock shop recently, and they told me to hang on, they had some padlocks the boss wanted me to get the cores out of. Apparently the customer nearly went ballistic when they said they could get the cores out simply by drilling them.

Convair and Convair Astronautics (notice - astronautics, not aeronautics)

Property of Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation and General Dynamics Astronomics (again, note astro, not aero)

Already got two cores out.

Man, wish these were in my collection instead of the customer's collection.

Those are cool padlocks, any 5 pin cores there?
My Dad challenged me one time to make a tension wrench to fit the small ejector holes in the bottom of the control cylinder,
to facilitate direct tension on the control lug. It worked for me and wound up being a rare occurance of me beating him at something

They are six pin cores. And have had limited luck with control tensioners. Sometimes they work, sometimes not.

No, they are from the USA. The brand is BEST. The lock format is SFIC.

Yes, but it is so hopelessly out of date as to be laughable. Almost none of my high security or unusual locks are in that thread.
