3 out of 4 picked open!!

Postby BSG_314159 » 13 Apr 2015 17:32

So first off I will have to give respect to professional locksmiths that have to pick locks open in the Texas heat!!!

So today at work a Chief warrant officer comes inside my office needing to replace locks. Well not many people know of my skill/hobby at my unit so I said how many locks? He said three containers need new locks because the person who had the keys is no longer in the military.

After starting this hobby I cringe everytime someone cut a lock.... and they do it so much! I'm going to gave to give a class on key control!!!

So I grabbed my pick set and plan B (bolt cutters). So once I get to the container these locks are not looking good. The first locks cylinder would not even turn... this being the 1 I couldn't open. So I thought I was going to make a fool out myself but I went at it while the chief warrant officer sat down and watched me.

Picking in the a/c on my lazy boy is one thing but standing in a weird position to get positive control over this lock was a terrible experience bit after 5 min just like that the US american 5200 lock opened. He said, "Wow!!" And I replied I know I didn't think I was going to get it haha!

The second one opened up in 2 min (pacific 100g) and the last (5200) in 5. So I basically opened up 3 locks in 15 mins. Not bad for a 4 month rookie!!!

My new locks to add to my bucket of locks to pick on a lazy Sunday.

Well done. It's always fun at work when someone calls me for lock services.

I'll agree to the weird position thing. Picking normally is one thing, but it seems like it's an art for everyone else to attach locks to everything upside down, backwards and spun around a little.

You have no idea... I need to start practicing with locks attached to various objects in all different directions . I need to get comfortable with being uncomfortable... I should be use to that in the army.

Nice job, BSG. Feels good to do it in the wild (legally), doesn't it?

Now you need to get some blanks for those American locks and make some keys!

Just when you finally think you have learned it all, that is when you learn that you don't know anything yet.

Thanks gordon!! It does feel pretty good. I wish I had my CRL to make me more bonafide.

I need to buy some blanks. I was thinking about saving some homeless keys. We have a bag full of padlock keys in our motor pool with no locks. Like 100 or so random keys. I still need to make keys for those pacific locks.
