concealed closers and Roton hinges

Why don't Roton or other continuous hinges play nicely with overhead concealed closers? For example a 90 degree closer only gives about 80-85 degrees with a Roton. Similarly a 105 is short by the same 5 to 10 degrees.

Cledry,

I suspect its got to do with the gearing in a Hagar Roton hinge that making the closer act the way its acting. the centerline" of a geared hinge in a way is dynamic in reference to the door and frame its mounted on, and will make the max door opening angle limited ( as you said, 5 to 10 degrees shorter compared to if you used a set of pivots (kawneer, Rixson) or ball bearing butt hinges.

what series Hagar Roton hinge are you using??

when they write the instructions for OHC's they presume your using butt hinges or the 3/4 offset pivots at top and bottom (such as those offered by Kawneer/rixson)

since this is happening, have you tried using a 105 OHC to see if it will hold at 90?? might do the trick.

sorry about answering soo late, didn't realize the question is a week old, I guess I really should read this forum more often!

hear from you soon??

if its not broke dont fix it!

Yes, a 105 OHC will act similar to a 90 OHC, it will hold open correctly but at a reduced angle.
