Feel counter rotation twice, what kind of pin?

A question regarding feeling a pin:

I press down a pin and feel counter rotation.
I release a bit of tension, pin falls down into the sheer line. (The lock would open then, if the other pins have been picked too.)
But if I continue to press onto the pin I feel counter rotation again. (is already perfectely set, still feel counter rotation)
If I release tension and set the pin twice, the lock won't open.

Quesiton:
What is it I am feeling there?

Maybe the key pin has a taper on the top?

Better question - what kind of lock? Was teaching a co-worker to pick yesterday, and was showing him with an American lock what counter-rotation looks like, and there was a second counter-rotation for the spoorated pins. (Spool pin with serrations)

Also, there are some lock companies (such as ASSA and Commando) that make double spools.

Finally, you may be setting the spool, then over setting the key pin.
