American Omega cylinder padlock

Postby nickmannnxx » 16 May 2015 20:37

So about a week ago I saw a padlock I really liked on ebay. It was a Medeco Biaxial in an older American body. Maybe an American 3600? I really wanted it, but stopped trying when the price went over $50. I figured I could make one for less than that! Besides which, the body was brass and I think a Medeco deserves a nice hunk of steel.

I had an American 3800 laying around so I checked ebay for a cheap Medeco kik. Saw one that i was pretty sure was an Omega. It was NOS and cheap so I bought it. It took some sanding to slim down the cylinder and I had to make a tailpiece for it... but its in there, it works, its awesome! I just love these 3800 series padlocks.

*Let me know if Im wrong about this being an Omega.

What is the "new concept of total key control"? Wouldn't complete key control be impossible?

Thanks for clearing that up Mac. I remembered the shape of the keys, but not that they were actually stamped Omega. So I have the "original" medeco cylinder?

I think copies of keys are only available from the factory. So VERY tight control over blanks.

You have an original/classic on the level 2/SKY keyway.

there are NO blanks available. cut keys are ordered in sets and are marked key "1 of 5" (for example )... and that is all that is available in that bitting

medeco still does this but it is not called omega series
