What's wrong with my bump key.

Bump keys and lock bumping finally have their own area. Discuss making bump keys, proper bumping techniques, and countermeasures here.

What's wrong with my bump key.

Postby M47H3W » 4 Jun 2015 16:01

So while I was practing with a bump key, an SC1 to be exact, for two of my doors, the bump key would smoothly slide in and it ended up working, meanwhile on another door, you had to push it in and the bump key did not work. What's wrong? The keyholes are exactly identical from looking at them from the outside. Please help.

It seems you are on the best way to damage the locks what is really bad if you want to use these doors.

You shouldn't bump locks that are in use. I think to tell what's wrong, a picture of the key would help.

The doors are not in use and are only for practice. Could someone please explain to me why I have the problem that was mentioned in the first post. Here's my SC1 bump key:

It could simply be that the locks it didn't move smoothly in were a little dirty and bound up. Maybe they need a little lube.

So no one here can tell you exactly why you are having this problem. Especially with the tiny amount of information you've given. We can make educated guesses based on experience however.

It's like calling tech support and saying "my computer's not working right. What's wrong with it?"
to which we will often say, it sounds like an ID-10-t error to me

I think your "valleys" the part where it is cut to the none depth is at a slight angle and as a result of that misalignment instead of it being flat, the pins are binding and working against gravity.

Hello, thanks for the reply. I had a hard time understanding your reply. To put it in basic terms, the key is impromperly cut?

We are not going to help you further. your original post shows a close up photo of a commercial Schlage door locks on a business, dorm, or apartment. If you arent willing to share more info as to what the heck you are doing, we are going to all assume it is something shady.

When someone comes to this forum and their first question is focused on getting into very specific lock by picking or bumping or other means, it raises a lot of red flags and tells us you are not a hobbyist, just someone trying to get in somewhere.

Your original post for anyone here interested in seeing the photos of the lock that you say is not in use:
