I was looking at getting a pinning mat within the next couple weeks. The only ones i found with good reviews was either the Lab mat or sparrows. Finally deciding i liked how the sparrows mat looked, I went to check the price on their website and it's gone. So my question is does anybody know of any other decent pinning mats besides the two mentioned? My guess is that sparrows is going to release a new one sooner or later. I just don't know if i want to wait.

I have the rubber floor mats with the small ribs set up in my truck but even it allows the pins, springs, etc. to roll. I have also had the problem of not being able to pick up small springs between the grooves, even with pinning tweezers, without difficulty. I have used fine weave cloth, like formal dinner napkins, for many years now. Pins and other stuff dont roll as easily. If I drop something it doesnt bounce or roll very far. If you use a thick weave cloth the springs and tweezers have a tendancy to pick up the cloth and disorganize stuff. The other advantage is that I can pick it up and shake out the debris or wash them.
Even in the shop I have taken to working on a piece of cloth.

I *think* he means the anti-slip rubbery mats you put under a throw rug on a wooden floor..

Are you guys talking about for when you gut a lock and want to determine the key, master key etc? I sue a little thing I call a waffle tray. Mine is ancient but A1, LAB and others make them or you can make one from a bit of wood.

Some pinning mats have a waffle tray built in, but the purpose of a pinning mat is mainly to keep the pins and springs you drop from rolling off the work surface.

Wow I didn't know I woukd get so many responses. Thanks guys!!!! My main purpose for this mat will be to organize screws while I take tablets, laptops, iphone etc. apart. I dont have a vast collection of locks to take apart yet, but I'm sure I will get there. And when I do I wanted something that would be durable, rubber, and of course cool looking. Here's the link to the one im talking about. http://hackerstickers.com/product/hardw ... nning-mat/

I have seen those on Youtube videos of lock pickers. I have seen very few actually use one. They usually have that on the table in the background. I like the anti-skid stuff that squelchtone showed in a pic. I like that stuff because it prevents small items from bouncing around when you drop them. I like to use in woodworking to keep pieces from sliding on the work table and quite dont have to clamp things down to do a little simple sanding. It has a lot of uses.
