has anyone picked the "best p-1" lock?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Scratch the postal for the keyway on this lock. It can work on the Keymarks but you'd never get it in one of these.

But I can rake them open with a Bogota in seconds. Go figure.

I would think that the bitting of the individual lock comes into play there. Then again, most of my BEST cores are pretty beat up and tend to need a lot of coaxing, I might just be a bit worried about what they would do to my bogotas, I broke one a couple of weeks ago and I really can't afford to replace any more.

I showed you the pictures of the bogota that I broke in an sfic lock that actually got it to the control position… For anyone who wants to see something crazy, check it out here http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=43287&start=1290

So that was nuts, but I have picked nastier keyways similar to the lock majorburt has… well, maybe not that nasty! That one is a real piece of work and I would love to have a go at it! I like to use my Peterson slender gem on those, or try raking with anything slender like the other guys already said. It can be done! Just don't give up and you will eventually get it picked. And if you pick at it long enough it will make the keyway worn out and easier to get your picks in  Here is a one that I got open which was a real beast:

It is an Arrow Choice and, although not as bad as what you are dealing with still rough. Here is a Keymark that was rough:

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Its a WC keyway Best Lock PKS core. I think Jeff hit the x key instead of the c.

Wx refers to anything in the PKS series. WA WB WC WD WE WG WH WK WY are the ones I am familiar with having been produced.

I thought all BEST cores had security pins.. I have been trying to pick 2 BEST locks for the last few months on and off (7 pin) and I have picked a 6 pin a few times to control but never operating. I have been SPPing and didnt even think to try raking

Now I have to try that!!

Wow, that worked perfectly! I took my double hump rake and bottom of the keyway tension to one of the Best locks I have not been able to pick and within 5 minutes it was open to Operating sheer line.. I need to get one of those Best tension wrenches that grab ahold of the control sleeve when picking.

Thanks for the tip!!!
