Old and built in safe

Postby AbramK » 12 Jun 2015 11:32

Hello guys, recently I found an old, built in safe in my house. It does not really look like a safe, because it has hidden lock.I called previous owner of that house and he said that key is lost and he can't help me. As a person, who has basic knowledge about locks, I decided to try to open it by myself. But I dont know what kind of safe it is, because I couldn't find any engraved marks on it. Maybe one of you guys, know what kind of safe it could be?

In addition, it has very strange lock. I have never seen like this before. Inside the hole, there are few "pushable" things, which automaticaly presses deep in to the lock when introducing a key.

I have tried to open it with key from my wardrobe. It fits there perfectly, but doesnt work. There are some picture of that key:

Would it be possible to modify this key with rasp to make it fit? If yes, how to find out where to make grooves?

Here you can see safe and its lock:

What do you guys think about this lock? Would it be possible to open it? Or I have to call local locksmith?
Sorry for grammar mistakes, English is not my native language.

That looks like a Bramah lock

It can be picked but you may need to make some special tools.

Maybe not genuine Bramah? All Bramah locks which I have found on the net have the sliders oriented radially while this lock has them slanted

but the working principle may be similar.

It looks like someone who didnt know how the lock worked stuck some kind of key in there that fit and turned it and turned it until the plates were bent to those angles.

but who knows, I'm not there in person, and I do not know Bramah style mechanism locks well enough to say.

Looks like that. It would be a sad story, such wonderful thing being destroyed.

I live in Netherlands :)

I dont think that it is destroyed. Those little things were at theese angles when I saw it first time. Unless, someone tried to open it before me

Well, in order to change that lock, I must open it first. Any of you guys has an advice how to make that special tool? Can I buy it online?

Can you make a better photo of the keyhole? Just to see if the sliders are really bent or not. Do they move in/out easily?

You should contact Jord Knaap he is a safe expert in Groningen, NL. He would have the tools and could open it or give you good advice.

The professional tool is probably very expensive, the tool in the last video was home-made.

Here is a professional tool demonstration:

Im located in south Netherlands, so he is pretty far from me. If I cant find anyone in my town, I will probably call him. But first, I want to find out, If I can open it by myself

Yes, from northern Netherlands to southern is such a long distance. snicker, snicker

Squelchtone is probably 4,000 kilometers from me, and neither of us is on a coast. :)

If you have never picked a lock before, you 99% more than likely won't open it yourself.. you can try to contact someone in your town, or you could contact the best. (Jord is the best) :D

you know..... TOOOL, a well known locksport club, has meetings in Eindhoven.. you may have very good luck contacting them at toool.nl and maybe one of their members will be happy to practice his picking and open that for you.
