-Practice locks- Where & Which?

Postby Sir Rakesalot » 12 Jun 2015 8:49

I was just wondering which practice locks would be good for a beginner?

Also, where would be a good place to buy them?

Welcome to the forum.

I ask that you please take a minute to Search, as this is a very common question and has been answered many many times. We also can't help you if you dont tell us which country/state you are in, we have people here from all over the world and from many English speaking countries.

um, this is not very good advice. There are certain locks we typically recommend, but just telling someone to go out and get a cheap padlock or door lock from a random hardware store isn't a very good answer. A lot of the "cheap" or "made in china" padlocks actually have mushroom security pins which are very difficult to pick and even understand for a beginner.

Let's wait till the OP tells us where they are from so we can provide brands, makes, and models in the proper order of difficulty for learning lock picking, and maybe some local stores or online resources where they can find them easily.

When I started picking. I found an old lockset in a door. Got it picked and started find locks in thrift stores, garage sales. Not knowing your location I'd guess most common household locksets wouldn't have high security pins. Also cutting up second hand locks that you find cheap or nearly free can teach you how they work without the quilt of wasting money.
