small phone systems

I am just wondering if anyone has experience with a small phone system in their business or knows of one that isn't crazy expensive that will do the following. If I am on a call and another call comes in on that line it will transfer that call to one of my other lines. Currently I just have 3 phone lines but am possibly expanding to 4. The second thing I would like to do is utilize our fax line for faxes and calls. I can do that now but the issue is when that line is forwarded for night calls the faxes are also forwarded to the cell phones which wakes up the on call tech in the wee hours for no reason. I was hoping that there is a way to forward calls from this line but have the faxes picked up at the shop.

There are really inexpensive VOIP solutions for up to 2 lines.
If you need more as it appears that you do, I would take a look at what Vonage Business has to offer.
Again this is a VOIP system so you would need internet connectivity which no doubt you do.

That's done in the switch, contact your provider and have them setup hunting on your lines, with hunt groups, if line 1 is busy the call will hunt to two, if two is also busy the call will hunt to line three and on and on.

What the other have said - hunting is done by the telco.
The most common small phone system I see around is still the Avaya Partner. Newer versions can do voicemail etc. Feel free to PM me with anything you might need - phones are a hobby of mine too!

If you are with BellSouth you can order a RingMaster number for the fax line which can be manually forwarded or automatically forwarded after a set number of rings, this will allow you to have an after hours callout number without having to pay the full cost for a additional physical line.

If you are with a CLEC they will more than likely be able to provide the same service, just under a different name.

Some great information thanks to everyone. I'll be calling AT&T on Monday to discuss some of these suggestions with our account rep.
