Car key code from ecu to cut a new key without an original?

Postby darknezz19 » 30 Jul 2015 21:40

Do car manufacturers store the code to mil a new key in the ecu? If so what products can read this information?

um, this is a hobby lock picking site, the area you posted in is 100% not the right area to post this question.. please at least take 10 seconds to TRY to post in the correct area..

.. h ..

(moving this from Lock Picking - FAQ & General Info to Locksmith Business Info - Key Machines & Programmers)

It's based on the VIN, not anything in the ECU.. [edit: or maybe not, I might be wrong on this, read rest of this thread]

My apologies for posting in the wrong area Squelchtone. I thought I read that some programmers can read the codes from some cars maybe or is that another mistake on my part?

that depends on if you mean the key cuts on the metal key or the key fob digital code that the key sends to the car when it is close enough to the car to send the signal?

your title suggests the metal key cuts, not the code sent by the chip inside the key head, but maybe I just don't understand what you mean.

Alright, I understand. Instead of making a new thread for every little question maybe I'll just ask in here too keep things tidy. What range of cars can and can't the AD100 handle for replacing a smart key without the original. What about with the original smart key?

ok, I see what you're asking, and I don't know, so maybe someone else will chime in.

The manufacturer suggests it can handle all 60 of the top car manufacturers.

AD100 Pro Unbeatable Features

• Reads Fault Codes
• Clears Fault Codes
• Displays Live Data
• Component Actuation
• Reads Immobiliser ECU ID's
• Reads Mechanical Key Codes
• Clears Key Memories
• Programs New Keys
• Extracts Immobiliser Pincodes
• ECU Identification
• ECU, Immobiliser Learn Coding
• Reads EKA Codes
• Programs New EKA Codes
• Programs Plip Keys

So I guess I'm still confused, do you want to just program a new chip head/fob using data you pull from a car using the AD100, or also cut a mechanical metal key to stick into a door lock or ignition by cutting a blank key on a key machine? I see the features list has reading mechanical key code, which is interesting, I didn't know that info was stored in the car.

either way, you may get better answers by emailing Advanced Diagnostics directly https://www.advanced-diagnostics.com/

or wait for one of our other members who may use one for work.

good luck,

The mechanical key code is stored in very few vehicle computers built for the US market.

I have a feeling that the original post was not specifically about US market vehicles.

Where the original poster is from would help to answer the questions.
