Lost key to really old Safety Deposit Box.

Hi, I have this old SDB, I will link a picture later when I get home, I got it from my Great Grandma, and it only has one key. Which I have misplaced. I have been looking for a way to get into it for months. I'd like to just open it so I can get everything out and see if I can find someone who can re-lock it (is that even a word?) for me for cheap. The lock, if I remember correctly, sort of swivels? Like when you unlock it, there is a lever sort of piece that moves out of the way so you can unlock it. The key was short. Like a key you would have for a filing cabinet.

I really hope someone can help me out. I put a necklace that my Great Grandma gave to me when I was younger, and I would really like to get it out of there and wear it, in remembrance of her.

I guess your best option is to bring the box to a locksmith. He may be able to open it for you with no damage, and make you a new key.
Since there are many different kind of locks on those boxes, a picture of the whole box and a closeup of the keyhole would help.

If you've lost the key, why would you want someone to re-lock it? You'd just be stuck right back where you are now. This situation sounds odd.

Just guessing, but I think (or, at least, I hope!) that the OP either meant "re-key" or "replace the lock"?

Oh, thanks . I'll have to look around for a locksmith here. Though, my Uncle is a Locksmith, and when I asked him he said that the lock would have to be drilled out. As for the picture, I have to see if my mother would drop off her iPad for me to take a picture of the box, as my tablet only has a front facing Camera, which would be hard to get a good picture of.

By 're-lock' I meant , like MacGyver101 said, to either replace the lock, or even perchance, get a key made for it.

that's not a safety deposit box, its an inexpensive petty cash box with a wafer lock. if your uncle cant pick that, he probably shouldnt be a locksmith

bring it to any locksmith shop near you and they should charge you no more than $20 to open that. getting a key made for it may be another $20 bucks.
