New York City TOOOL

Postby nite0wl » 2 Aug 2015 13:03

I know it has been rather quiet for a while but New York City does in fact have an active TOOOL chapter.
We meet regularly on the 3rd Thursday of each month at a pub in northern Manhattan (Le Chéile 839 West 181st, New York, NY).
Meetings usually start around 6 or 6:30 PM (depending on when the first member manages to arrive) and there isn't really a formal ending time (just a point where we have to make sure the check is paid).

The meetings are usually pretty low key and informal but we would love to get our attendance up and build a more active chapter.

This is the first time I have heard of this organization. They have some great pull quotes on the home page, really inspirational stuff.

Unfortunately I am in Southern California (which there is no TOOOL chapter) but I wish you luck on growing your local community. I see on the site that there is a group called LockSport international, are they as laid back? It says that it is competitive, I would rather just go talk locks and get tips and see what I could learn.

Good luck! Looks like a lot of fun.

Thanks.

I haven't been to California in ages so I don't know what their meetings are like. The LA meeting which is officially run by L.I seems to be pretty average for most meetings I have seen elsewhere, usually including a focused lecture as well as beginner tutorials and less structured discussion time. Most of the competitions happen at big events like DefCon, HOPE, and other conferences.

Looking at the LA Locksport International meetup page I think the organizers are here on LP101 so you should see if they have a listing in the "Locksport local" section or reach out to them directly.

So there are already threads for San Diego (http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=48873), LA/SoCal (http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=51762), and Fresno (http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=58246) right on the front page of the Locsport Local section. Using the forum search tool I also found at least 3 threads referencing the San Francisco TOOOL chapter as well. I would suggest checking those out if you are looking for meetings, events and groups in California.
I don't know much about any of the events, meetings, or groups in those cities beyond that they exist (or have threads asking about them) since I am in New York and trying to make people aware of NYC's local group and events.
