Mother in law is happy I pick locks!

I was on my way home yesterday with the wife and her mom called and asked if I could come over with my lock picks.. She left her keys in the house when she went with her other daughter to drop off her car at the repair shop. The shop had a car drop them off at home but she left the keys there..

I have been telling her how easy it would be to get into her house because she is using Kwikset locks. Her answer to that was to get a security door put on with more kwikset locks...??? It took under 2 minutes to zip open all 4 locks and walk into the house. I was going to SPP them but when I got there she was kind of giving me crap (in a loving way) saying OK son lets see how fast you can get in, you always tell me how easy it would be.

She was happy to get into her house but NOT happy with how quickly I did it and really not happy when I told her that I havent been picking locks for a while because of getting ready to move and I was out of practice

Now she wants me to install better lock sets on her house..

It's funny how after enough information gathers in our heads we begin to treat certain things like common knowledge.

Gotta remember that ninety-nine people out of every hundred have absolutely no idea at ALL what happens when their key enters a lock. Let alone what makes one more secure than another.

At least you made a believer out of her, half the people I know would immediately declare me a low-life thug if I helped them like that.

Despite the fact that everyone here knows low-life thugs are all about destructive entry.

I was called to a residential lockout the other day and the woman complained I opened her door so fast but I charged 50$ I tried to explain that it took practice to be able to do it that quick and that was actually cheaper than most people in the area, needless to say when I mentioned perhaps upgrading her locks she was not into that. I've said it once and I'll say it again, people like the illusion of security not actual security. Personally I don't thing you can put a price on that kind of peace of mind but some people....heh

We have rules that locks in use are not to be picked. We are also to be care full who we tell about the fact that we have a hobby picking locks.

Just wait til some one has something stolen from a locked drawer or a lock stops working.

Many hobby pickers have ended up being accused wrongly of being a thief.

We tell beginners not to pick locks in use or locks that we don't own. Locks can often be screwed up when being picked even by trained locksmiths.

I am on a site where any user who admits to picking a lock that isn't his or that is in use as a lock to lock some thing up is banned. We can't trust them to fallow the rules so why would be trust them with advanced information on high security locks.

As far as I am aware this is not supposed to be a legitimate act of a hobby picker.

A lot of people visit these sites and their opinion of hobby lock picking is formed by the messages we post.

On some sites the users are bragging how easy it was to open school lockers.

The public image of Lock Sports suffers with irresponsible posts opening locks that we do not own.

Thankfully we have some great Mods that are pretty good at telling the difference between people bragging about picking things in an unethical manner and those that are legitimately using their skills to help a person out who asked for the help.
