old Weiser knob

Hey guys found this old Weiser knob, the kind where you lock it by pushing in the knob and turning it while pushed in. I picked it but it would not unlock, I know I picked it because it turns about 30 degrees freely back and forth in the direction I picked it. It is old and may be broken seeing as it was in a box fully assembled and worn out like it was Uninstalled and just put away. I've never picked one of these before so anyone have any thoughts?????

You might need to pop the cylinder out and see if the tailpiece was put in correctly. I like to pull out the spindle from the back and while it is pulled out, attach a vice grips, so it stays pulled out. Now pick the knob cylinder, turn it to about 5 o/clock and release the vice grips. You may need to turn the cylinder back and forth a bit more with your tension wrench, but the whole thing should come apart between 5 & 6 o/clock, or just less than half a turn to the right. I usually turn the whole spindle halfway around and a spray of lube never hurt either. To re-assemble you need to pull the spindle out again, while you turn the cylinder back to the locked position.

The part that actually locks this kind of lockset is the interior knob. All the key is supposed to do is turn to about 3 o/clock to the right
