Craziest moment of the week.....

Pull up a chair, grab a cold one, and talk about life as a locksmith. Trade stories of good and bad customers, general work day frustrations, any fun projects you worked on recently, or anything else you want to chat about with fellow locksmiths.

Craziest moment of the week.....

Postby CMS_SAFECRAKR1 » 12 Sep 2015 19:46

Everyone has that one crazy moment or job that shows up once an a while. Enjoy this one....

Had a guy show up at our showroom with a Sentry hotel type safe, he was anxious as his cruxiform bypass key wouldn't work and the batteries died (they are inside safe). He provides some ID, (plus he's on a dozen different camera angles) and I perform the opening. The door is swung open by the customer and he flips out and runs out the front door and smokes the tires leaving in a hurry. I look and find safe full of old paperback novels..... :? Few hours later customer returns and with a detective. Apparently the guys "friend" had bought and switched out his safe filled with books for the other. The customer stated he had $57000 in his safe. The "friend" is long gone, money is long gone. After the customer leaves pissed off, the detective strikes up conversation and says that the whole situation is a little odd. The customer was driving a Lexus with big gaudy wheels and according to detective the customer has no form of regular income. The "friend" has a few felonies and such on his records. Detective states he suspects it was drug money and friend screwed him over and most likely headed back to mexico.

If it was drug money, it seems kinda dumb to get a detective involved. Also seems kinda dumb to keep large amounts of money in a cheap sentry safe. Methinks the customer wasn't very smart. :)

Sadly it happens alot around here. People see the word "safe" and just assume its good. There is a reason my safes cost 7 times as much i tell customers. An igloo cooler with a lock is not a safe. As far as criminals getting cops involved, they are pretty stupid around here too. I'm always hearing funny stories from local PD and drug task forces when i'm doing work for them. Best one was guy called about his stolen car....full of weed....

We have some winners down here too, this woman rings up 911 demanding they dispatch an officer to her location because a drug dealer took her money and won't give her the flakka she paid for, then when the call taker continues asking for details, she calls the call taker a and a and threatens to get a gun and shoot the drug dealer.

She never got her flakka, but she did get a pair of handcuffs applied.
