where to get faceplate doorknob for mortise lock

I don't know what this type of face plate/door knob/spindle is called. It's the type where the door knobs are attached to the face plates and there are 2 screw poles on the outer plate that the inner plate screws into.

I wanted to get just the inner and outer plates and knobs but we were informed that you have to get the whole mortise lock and the knobs/plates are not sold separately.

Anyone know if these are available separately anywhere?

Sounds like a Marks full mortise lockset. Unless he is talking about an antique. Check with a full service locksmith in your area and bring in all of your parts and pieces for verification.

It sounds more like you are attempting to order these items on-line rather than through a real locksmith who would first properly identify the make and model of your mortise lockset to see if alternative trim pieces are in fact available, get you a quote on price, then order those items from the OEM through a parts house/supplier.

The answer to your question is yes, such parts are available, though not generally directly to the public. Replacement of damaged trim pieces is something that does happen in institutional and commercial facilities without replacing the entire lockset.

Without a bit more information about the lock in question, perhaps some pictures, etc, trying to answer this would be like asking a parts house for replacement brakes for your car without telling the parts tech what model, year and other details about the vehicle the parts are needed for.

No way to help unless we have a brand name and a few photos. If a commercial US brand then no problem. Residential newer is not problem, older may take some fabricating.

It's a Marks mortise lock. It's for the entry to an apartment building (the vestibule) so it doesn't have a dead bolt.

A local locksmith told us that we'd have to get the full set (plates and lock).

I can get pictures if needed.

I contacted Marks by email and they responded that you can't get just the face plates and knobs and you have to get the whole lock with it.
