Help finding this Mul-t-lock euro core

Postby tofik0 » 10 Jul 2015 15:30

i need to find a Mul-t-lock core, 30mm deep euro profile, I've searched high and low and the only thing i found so far is bosnianbills rotalok video in which he uses that size core, but doesn't give any specs. is that a euro half core? sorry I'm not sure what its called thats why my search is proving futile

Hi and welcome back, how's that ILCO Baldwin KW holding up?

If you tell us more about what you're trying to do or if this cylinder you need is for a door or a padlock, we can offer better answers.

The half cylinder sizes for Mul-T-Lock start at 40.5mm overall length (A), and 31.0mm distance from face of door to center of retaining screw (B) as shown here:
http://mpc.mult.production.assaabloy.co ... =2091&dl=1

The entire Mul-t-Lock catalog:

do you already have a Mul-T-Lock cylinder and need a new one or are you hoping to put one into a door that needs a cylinder or has some other brand installed in it right now?

Thanks

thanks for the reply, that baldwin kw is doing great, no issues what so ever, i picked up a security pin set and dropped them in just because, it really makes life simpler not having to go around to the front of the house to get in,

the multlock core would go into a rotalok padlock that came with a standard key, i am hoping to make it a bit more secure, I'm not sure what those distances mean but i know the lock takes one half euro cylinder

Buy a single cylinder in modular design http://multlock.com.ar/English_Product_ ... ers/c2.pdf
The 30 mm size usually has approx. 25 mm long body plus approx. 5 mm plug end standing out.

... or you can buy a fixed (not modular) design and cut the unnecessary part of the body with saw (as seen in the Bosnianbill's video - GEGE cylinder).

I have an ISEO padlock that has an extra cylinder and key and looks much the same shape and size as the cylinder in the video. The portion that holds the plug is about 18 mm dia. Overall height is about 34 mm. From the face of the lock to the back of the actuator is about 34 mm. Here are some pics.

There is one strange thing in the linked video.
The back end of the plug in euro cylinders (i.e., actuator) is not standardized, each manufacturer uses his own specification.
Usually there is a slot for coupling there. Some manufacturers use vertical slot, some use horizontal slot (even more variants exist).
And now the strange thing: the original (GEGE) cylinder has vertical slot in the locked position while the new cylinder (Mul-T-Lock) has horizontal one. How could it work both in the same padlock which enables only 90º rotation of the key?

Maybe I found the explanation.
The slot in the MTL is pretty wide, thus the rotating counterpart in the padlock does not follow the plug rotation exactly. It can be seen there (time 13:41) that if the MTL plug is in the locked position (3 o'clock), the padlock's counterpart is in a near-to-open position (2 o'clock).
If the position of the internal padlock mechanism is not adjustable (let's say in 45º increments), I would prefer a cylinder with a narrow vertical slot for the coupling there.

P.S. the 90º limitation of the key rotation is not a problem - the escutcheon can be mounted to allow 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock rotation or 3 o'clock to 6 o'clock.

You can cut a new groove at the end of the 30mm lock's cam if I udnerstand your problem correctly.
Btw often any kind of half cylinder will fit in on those padlocks. Soemtiems you need minor adjustment such as the one mentioned above or drill an extra hole for a screw or such. I'm not very familiar with that exacty type of padlock though but if you can get a euro half cylinder cheap that might be worth a try. With a little sawing I think it would fit. Try gettin a cheap chinese first so that you are not ruinign a nice little gege or whatever lock you intend to put in :)
To infinity... and beyond!

That is my picture. I have that cylinder. It was a double, cut in half. One half was tapped and installed in a padlock. I have the remainder half with one key.
