DOM diamant discontinued? :(

Postby ARF-GEF » 5 Oct 2015 17:02

I was looking at Dom's site and now they show the IX staurn as their top of the line. (The successor to the IX KG (Kugel))
What happened to diamant? Was is discontinued? Why?
Does anyone know any details?

http://en.dom-group.eu/mechanical-systems/
it says our current top product: ix saturn...
:O

I know that the other Dom locks are also very good and the IX Saturn has no reason to be ashamed, but still. The diamant was just such a nice unique big hunk of well made hard metals :(

poor DOM Diamond, I think it was one of the physically most resistant locks available. I know it could be picked, I know ther's a tool but still such a great lock. Such a shame. :( :(
Rest in peace, you will be dearly missed.

Okay: update:
on the German site which I originally visited there is no more dom Diamant:
http://www.dom-group.eu/mechanische-systeme/

On the English language site it's still available although the IX Saturn is touted as the flag-bearer.

On the UK site it's still listed as the maximum security option http://www.ronis-dom.co.uk/mechanical/systems/

On the german site, the Diamant is also listed as last lock.
Its still in production and sold but according to a locksmith I know very good, not a best selling product.

I think its much to expensive (170 €). Most people do not care for the lock.

Business people look out for Vds certified cylinders or UL listed cylinders and choose a cheap and known locks. The Dom IX saturn is also certified and cost only around 100 €. I believe they put their best selling product dominantly on their site.

I just ordered a DOM Diamant padlock in January and it was all over the locksmith's site as the top lock to buy. Wonder what happened since then, many of the german locksmith websites i have looked at recently still have it as the top lock, but i agree it is expensive and I'm not surprise a lot of people don't buy it.

Can I ask where you got it from? Was it an English language site or German? I've tried to find one of these but couldn't really find them anywhere here in the UK, along with a lot of the other decent looking locks you only seem to be able to find them on German or Italian speaking sites!

That's a real shame if it's true it has been discontinued. Only found about them a week or so back and was in awe at that key!

They aren't cheap when you order them new. But as I saw you can still get the mnew on german sites.
But if you have some patience and look around I'm sure you can find much better deals than buying them new. (Unless you want to use tehm in which case always buy new, directly from a reputable seller and paranoid parrot says either get it personally without giving name address or any such detail or have it shipped to a friend etc.)
