Buying Abloy: Security Snobs?

Thinking of upgrading your door security? Getting a better deadbolt or padlock? Getting a new frame or better hinges? Not sure what brand or model to go with for your particular application? Need a recommendation? Feel free to ask for advice here!

Buying Abloy: Security Snobs?

Postby General_Tso » 11 Oct 2015 9:36

Hi, all.

I see Security Snobs mentioned a lot in the forums, but a lot of the posts are older. Is Security Snobs still the place to go to buy Abloy locks in the US? I also see an LSI Depot website that is marginally cheaper. Your recommendations are appreciated

Thanks!

Both are still decent places, and have bought from both sources. The service was much better from Security Snobs. Also watch the pricing. The Abloy locks from Security Snobs came with keys. IIRC, you still had to buy each key from LSI depot.

Yes, they're still the best place to go for Abloy in the US. I have bought from LSIDepot in the past as well and had no issues, but as a general rule, when it comes to internet vendors you should make sure they actually have things in stock, I believe security snobs actually keeps things in stock, where other vendors you order something and ooops, turns out it's gonna be 2 to 4 weeks wait time while they order from the factory. I'm not saying thats the case with LSIDepot, but check with both of them, it will depend on what you're ordering.

In case in matters for your situation, Security Snobs is in the Seattle WA area and LSIDepot is in the Orlando FL area.

Hope this helps,
Squelchtone

PS. Gordon beat me to the punch, he types faster than I do. =)

Gordon and Squelchtone,

Thanks for the great advice. Now that I looked, LSI definitely requires buying each key, which accounts for the price difference. I will have to call Security Snobs tomorrow to make sure they have them in stock.

Thanks again! I appreciate it!

Also agree with Squelchtone on product in stock. Ordered a Medeco Duracam lock (with keys) from LSI Depot, and it took about four weeks to arrive.
