I've been SPPing for a few years now thanks to this site. Joined recently to ask a question about bumping since one of my buddies in the department was all about it. I've decided bumping isn't worth my time or effort. Now on to my question:
I got a new batch of locks in the other day from the local locksmith and was having no problems with Kwikset, Defiant, and Schlage until I ran into a weird Schlage B series deadbolt. First, it's dirty as hell so I had a hell of a time picking but eventually I SPP'd it into the "open" position but it would not rotate further than 90 degrees. I have one of those DIY practice stands that ITS Tactical made so I insert the whole bolt into it, and it was set up for the bolt going in to the (imaginary) door jamb to the right which means I should have had to turn it counterclockwise to get it open. The keyway turned freely but I was unable to retract the bolt into the stand, so I clumsily tried to use my plug spinner on it and didn't put enough tension in it so the pins got caught and it reset itself. Any reason why this would happen? Broken lock? I'll try and pick again when I have more time but wanted to get some opinions on this. Thanks.
Edit:
To add, my buddy tried using his bump key to get more leverage/turning torque but it didn't insert all the way into the keyway like it normally would on other Schlage locks. It appears to be a 5 pin Schlage so it's really a mystery.
