So i found this chest in the basement

Postby danilli » 7 Dec 2015 12:41

I found this chest in my parents basement and they said it was from the previous owner. I asked them if i could have an attempt at opening it, we do not have a key or anything like that. It is heavy and there is shit inside.

Here is pictures at the lock, http://imgur.com/a/rjkWH

I am not a lockpicker but for some reason when looking at the lock it looks old and maybe its easy to get up so im asking here.

Do any of you have an idea of how to get this up?

I could be totally wrong, but it looks like one of those oldy-style warded lever locks that you get on cabinets etc.
Again, could be totally wrong but I think they all either use the same key, or a very limited number of keys.
Something like this

You could always try tracking down and buying one or more of these cabinet lock keys (in you can find them - eBay is probably a good start) or even the entire lock and key as they aren't expensive.
Alternatively, there may be "try-out" keys for these - a set of keys with all the possible combinations.
Finally, a simple lever lock pick might get it open?

Just a couple of thoughts off the top of my head.

The age of the lock is not a good indicator of it's ease of picking. Moreover, since the trunk is more valuable with a working
lock, it would be better to obtain a working key. I have several keys in my shop that would likely open your trunk, I'm sure
other locksmiths are similarly equipped. People bring their trunks to me all the time & I provide a key, or simply unlock them

Ah ok so you think getting one of those will open it? I might get one then.

Ok, do you have any links to stores that sell those types of keys?
