I highly recommend trying it. Half the battle is becoming efficient at dialing and reading the dial in increments which just takes practice.

Not to thread-jack, but are there any beginner's tips you can give me regarding those two elements, or suggested safe-manipulation starter locks or guides? Or is that advanced forums only stuff? Or shall I just head over there ^^^ and use the search...

P.s. I managed to find a PDF of the guide shown in the OP pic just by googling the name of it.. Not sure if it's supposed to be public domain and free but it's right there on Google, first link. Hefty thing!

Start with a s&g 6700. 6730 is ok too but has tighter dialing tolerances. I prefer not to start anyone out on the spy proof metallic (gold or silver) dials as I find them harder to read. Books to start would be the national locksmith guide to manipulation.

I'm new to general picking, too, so I'm sure it'll be a lot to take in all at once, but it's great to have this starting point for all the things we enjoy (lock picking, safe manipulation...)

Yes, the challenges ahead. Do not toss the lock out the window; after the long hours and some frustration, you will manipulate the lock. Then you will be hooked for good

The S&G is a great place to start. For books, you likely have the best; I have a couple of others I use also. Lockmasters printed a manual for a Combination Lock Manipulation Course they offered; this was a 36 lesson text of lessons and tests. It contains a lot of good information I found a copy online and see them from time to time. Another is Safe Lock Manipulation by Neal Multop; this is 32 pages plus a few diagrams.

Did realize this had been sitting on my desk for this long .. I have from time to time picked it up and made any attempt at finding the combination.. So, since I am on another attempt I have a question.. Is there a good video out there that show the process used in this book..

I am having a bit of trouble visualizing what they are talk about in some spots. Any advice would be appreciated ..

After making my first run through on my path to insanity .. Can someone tell me if I am on the correct path .. When I plotted the difference from the LCP and RCP every 2.5 dail marks ... the #50 stuck out as having the widest difference .. So made that my "Best Contact Number" and when 5 less and 5 more and plotted the point .. Which actually yielded 49 as the number .. Then determined which wheel I was dealing with by subtracting 10 from the BCP and dialing in various of the combination .. Is it necessary to do the High-Low Test other than for verification ..

So in conclusion .. I would say LEFT 49 Wheel #3.. the Combo is ##-##-49

FYI - I set the combination last night to L30-R40-L50

Ok, So I managed to find all the gates with known combo, so after lengthy discussion with my wife about how the instructions in the manual are poorly written, she changed the combination and didn't tell me what it was .. So, I figured out the combination and tell her it is L57-R92-L41.. She says your way off on the first number .. She tells me she changed the combo to L11-R92-L41.. We go back and forth with "no you didn't - yes I did" .. So to prove her point she take the lock and dials in what she says she entered .. and it opened.. I dial in the combo I discovered and it opened..

So, HURRAYY to me for figuring it out .. and What the hell the lock appears to have 2 numbers for wheel #1..

Any thoughts ..

Why don't you remove the lock back cover and watch what happens while you dial the combos?
That's the best way to understand why there are two working combos. I doubt the first wheel has two gates
