Which course would you guys recomend for someone interested in the lockout business? www.locksmithbiz.com or www.prolockouttraining.com? Anyone have any suggestion/recomendation from personal experience perhaps?

Eyes_Only I would recommend the http://www.locksmithbiz.com course. I've had several people ask me about it and I finally just bought it to see for myself. I should have a review posted in a few days with more details. All in all I'd say it was worth the money.

So, how was the course? I was thinking of trying that one myself, but wanted to hear some opinions on it first :)

Well I just finished going over the locksmithbiz course and it is pretty good. It is geared toward ppl with genuine interest in opening their own lockout business. I thought it didnt have as much info as i expected from my view point but it gives you a great start for your own business.

Are you allowed to purchase this course over the internet if you are not a certified locksmith?

It would be rather pointless if you couldn't, right? After all, purchasing this course means you're trying to become some sort of locksmith.
It's not the tools that open the lock. It's me.

I would go with www.prolockouttraining.com, you get more features included on the program and its cheaper, but they did say anything about an age limit do you guys kno what the age requirement is?

locksmith course

Postby chad » 25 Nov 2004 9:47

As far as the locksmithbiz.com course goes I was VERY disappointed. The videos were extreamly poor quality and as far as reading material goes 1/3 of it was the MIT lockpicking guide. While it may be ok for the extream novice, if you have much of a clue at all it is a waste of money. I am no expert and dont claim to be but there are little things that he doesnt get into such as the possibility of taking alot of the life out of a higher end lock using electric picks and pick guns. I have learned far more from the creative people in this group about the basics than could ever be obtained from this course.

Chad is basicaly right about this course. What it does provide however is good information on how to start a lockout specialist business, where to buy certain tools, how to keep law enforcement from harrassing you, and how to get customers. The rest is basicaly the MIT guide and the then teh MIT guide again on video.

Blast, I also forgot it teaches you how to open automobiles. Although this being my first REAL lesson in how to open an automobile it seems like he might have skimmed over it. Hmm.

I've taken the locksmithbiz course, so I thought I'd throw my thoughts in.

The depth of the material isn't all the way to the bottom of the locksmithing barrel, but you should think about it this way: What he gives you is most of what he HAS, and certainly all that he thinks you'll need to know -- and he's a lockout specialist with years under his belt. There's certainly plenty more out there, and if you poke around online a bit and especially read these forums, you'll find most of it, but the point is that how to foil impression using nothing but your fillings and your broken fingerbone while trapped in the Australian outback is simply not a skill that the average lockout pro will need. A full-service locksmith whose job description includes "knowing everything"? Yeah, he probably needs it. And if you end up staying in the business you'll probably pick up the rest anyway. But it's a question of what's necessary.

What Chris does give you is a comprehensive guide to the business side of starting your service, which is the missing element that you probably WON'T find on forums or wherever. And he's usually happy to answer emails about any further questions you have. It's not LSS+ in a friendlier interface; it's just a foundation that does, in my opinion, have everything you need AT THAT LEVEL. Is there more? Sure. And you can find it elsewhere.

Just my thoughts. Unbiased source. Whether the course is worth your hard-earned bucks is another matter, and entirely your call, but I don't buying it.
