A lot of Sargent's cylinders never had security pins. There was never a connection between Sargent and S&G, they were always entirely separate companies.

Fair enough - I thought I read somewhere that the guy named 'Sargent' (hence the company name) merged with another company to become S&G, but as you say Sargent seems to be a diff. company so not sure where I heard that. My bad ^^

The practice love that MrWizard sells. It came with 6 pins in it, and I picked it a few times before opening it up to see the internals. I've never messed with exposed pins and springs before, was really cool and I wish I had more time to work with it!

today i have picked my ASSA lock demo.



its 4 pins and no security pins. anyone know if this is common with lock demos? are they alwayes easy picks?

I guess it was beginners luck because I haven't had any luck with this the past few days haha and no I don't really know anything about this lock guys, just bought it on eBay because I've picked every lock in my house about 1000 times and need a challenge again

Tried decoding for the first time. The "TSA-friendly" lock was a breeze, but the 4-dial one gave me a lot of grief before I learned how to identify the holes. Obvious *now*, but not for the first hour or so...

I'm somewhat tempted to blame my tool. The corners on the piece of aluminum from a cider can I was using kept going round on me.

A teeny weeny brass three pin.

"Picked" the TSA-access lock on the 3-dial padlock I'd decoded earlier. "Picked" because I just stuck a straight music wire inside to feel around while I was holding it by the collar and it just fell open.



This one actually had to be tensioned to open it, but after that just sticking the wire in did the job...

I knew the Travel Sentry locks were garbage, but seriously?

A piece of string would do a better job.

Teeny weeny locks. The metallic ones were easy even for my meager skills: 2 and 3-pin Chinese ones.

The white is a Clas Ohlson / Cocraft 4 pin model. It was an uphill battle, but finally got it open twice. Plain music wire didn't work: 0.8mm was too floppy and 1.0mm was too thick, so had file sides of 1.0mm wire down a bit. Some real picks sure would be nice - hopefully arriving next week...

That was the first 4 pin lock I've managed, so pouring a Scotch to celebrate

Still working on and off on the best lock from above (for control).. But until that happens I pulled this old Wally padlock out of the bucket and gave it a shot. Really filthy inside. Was hoping to gut it since I had no other use for it... Looks like the pins are loaded through the side of the brass housing and capped that way.

That's an Italian lock it's not easy to disassemble it since it was not supposed to be serviced.
If you carefully remove the caps and tap the holes, you may end up with a nice repinnable padlock. I did it many times, with different results. Some locks ended up in the trash. Others in my toys box.
