A friend has an office and asked me about adding a buzzer to the strike. When they activate the door from their phones, no one can hear the door activate, even the person standing at the door.
My thought was to just put a 12v buzzer on the same sire that triggers the latch. Would this work? The other option is too labor intensive as the control is about 200 wire feet away in the basement.
It is an Abloy lever handle but no markings on the strike. I did not do the initial install.

Yes, that will work, strikes typically will be 12 volt or 24 volts, but some are lower. Check the voltage and then just parallel the appropriate buzzer with the strike.

Thanks Jim! That is what I thought, but since this part of the business is new to me, I wanted to make sure. I already tested the voltage and it is 12v DC. It is powered by a 1amp wall wart hooked up to the phones KSU.

You could use a 12V piezo beeper as well, you just need to make sure polarity is right to hook up.

When I had a chance to pull it out of the door jamb, it is an HES 5000. HES makes a buzzer (#2006M) but I have a buzzer in my junk box that is 12v and will work just fine. Now I am waiting for my hard copy of the HES catalog to add to the collection... Thanks everyone!

FYI the HES buzzer is the same one Radio Shack sells less connector for a lot less $$

That is the one I have in my junk box. But alas, they closed our local Radio Shack.
