Madbob ergonomic set

Postby Killaken123 » 22 Jan 2016 22:18

Hello all! I'm new to the hobby and I have been voraciously reading this site. I'm from Trenton NJ and I'm 33 just so everyone knows lol but here's my question: I've been lockpick in for ab a month and I really enjoy it I currently have a cheap China made 12 piece pick set and I want to step my game not to mention they are seriously killing my hands! I've been looking around and I really like the way the madbob ergonomic set looks and the fit and finish of it so I think on the first I will be purchasing it. I just wanted to know if anybody has used it or could recommend something similar (maybe less $)*bc w current exchange rate they're ab $60 us but they look really well made and highly polished so if anyone has ideas or opinions please let me know. Thank you very much I hope to hear back from all of you!

Hi and welcome to the forum. since we aren't texting each other on our cell phones and some of our readers are not native English speakers, please do your best to not use sms texting abbreviations such as ppl, ab, bc, w, etc, etc.

do you have a link to these picks you are looking at?

found the set you're asking about, looks really nice. I'd say it's worth the price for nice wood handles like that.

Sorry about the abbreviations I apologize as I am on my phone and am so used to texting it's a hard habit to break. Like I said I'm pretty new to the hobby/Sport and I have a 14 price set already I've already found what everyone say is true I actually use 3 of the 2 hooks and a half diamond so I figured the mad Bob set would be good because the other 3 are rakes and I guess they're good to have though I don't use them much. Maybe when I get to harder locks I'll use them for a false set then switch to SPPing. I had a question though considering the company is from the UK do you think they will be made with the slim profiles like the Southard slimline? Also I fully support this site's sponsor I just wanted a set that had nice handles because the standard metal ones are seriously killing my hands. Thank you Squelchtone for responding so fast and when I do get my new picks I'll take pictures and give a review for anyone else looking into them.

I have the madbob ergo pick set (was also supplied with a couple of tension wrenches), really nicely made walnut handles with 2 filled fixing holes. I have used mine for many hours now and they allow you to massively increase your picking time, as they do not cut into your fingers but still provide for a decent level of feedback. I got mine when madbob site had them as their 'deal of the week' for an unbelievable £22!! They are made from some type of high shine chrome steel which looks classy and slides nicely across the key pins, however it is not very springy and will permanently bend and deform. I bent one of mine when someone accidentally knocked into me whilst picking a padlock, luckily I was able to bend it back flat again, but this should not be an issue under 'normal' use. They fit perfectly into one fold out pocket of my Sparrows Sherman case. Superb UK craftsman build quality with a bespoke handmade aesthetic and feel.

I don't own these but I've heard some good things about the Mab.Bob stuff and I love the look of these wood handles. If I get a set I'll be sure to post a review :)

Those look very comfortable. I wouldn't mind having a set myself. One of the things on my to-make list is a nice wood handled interchangeable-tip pick handle. My pipe handles aren't the most ergonomic, but they work I guess.

I'm ordering my set on Monday after conversion to us dollars they're a little under 60 bucks w shipping. So thanks to everyone for the help according to madbob site it'll take 5 to 10 days before they even mail them due to the bespoke nature of them but whatever they look good I can't wait!!! Will post pics soon. Kwoswalt post pics of your picks so I can see (post pics of picks sounds kinda redundant lol)

My computer has not been getting along with imgur recently, so photo uploading is a pain in the neck. :x I may try dropbox to see if that works any better. You can see one of my picks in this post: http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=43287&start=1755#p453641
