THe only problem with rytans is im a hobbyist and i can't purchase them.

my favorite is the peterson tri fold set for general picking. If I had to choose between the plastic or rubber handles I would choose the plastic. I seem to have better feedback with them.

Hmm why would one not be able to get Rytans?

-Not old enough to legally purchase lockpicks
-Parents don't consent
-Not of legal age so can't purchase online.
-No retailers near by

i have a set of the Navigator 20pc Picks. Its a nice set if your just starting out, you can find it decently cheap online, and it has a nice variety of picks, plus the plastic handles can be nice if your going at a lock for an extended period of time.

I cannot purchase the rytan picks because they don't sell them to hobbyists. Rytan only ships to certified locksmithing companies unless it is a rytan plug spinner. Of course, all that may be for their key cutting machines.

OK. But I've never had a problem buying Rytan Picks...and this is just a hobby for me. I think maybe you just haven't found the right places to shop.

What shop have you been using? All of the shops that sell Rytan picks that I've found are either overpriced or don't sell to hobbyists.

There are a few available to hobbyists, but your right they are chargeing almost double the Rytan suggested price for individual picks and the sets are almost 50 percent markup from suggested price. I've had a bit of luck with some suppliers who take it at face value that you are trying to learn the trade and will sell to you though.

Yea those are who I've seen that hobbyists can buy from. But as I said earlier the prices on the first link are double the Rytan suggested price for individual picks and sets are almost 17.5% above suggested Rytan price.

The second site link is the same scenario as the one above just sets are a little more expensive nearly 45% above Rytan suggested pricing.

Now I work in retail and we call what they are doing on the individual picks as Keystone pricing, which is doubling the cost and selling the items for that price. That is horrendous pricing.

I guess if someone wants the stuff bad enough and can't really get it elsewhere, they'll overpay for it

Thertel - do you really think its fair to characterize these prices as horrendous when 1) they are obviously difficult to get for many people, and 2) we're talking about $2.25 ? One could get the few picks he or she wants for about ten bucks. Just my thoughts - not meaning to start anything
