ALOA Test

Postby mikegtc » 24 Jan 2016 2:48

Hello everyone I am getting ready to take the ALOA test i read it was 250 plus questions plus some writing material and is going to cost about $300, I have not been able to find anything about how many times you can take the test though, for example if i fail do i get another chance?. One more thing after i graduated Ashworth college for the locksmithing they said i needed to take the ALOA test within 90 days of graduating, so does this mean if i do not take it within 90 days i cant take it at all if i wait to long?.

Its a weekend I am to anxious to wait for a weekday for them to reply with the same questions lol sorry.

@mikegtc:

Regarding the 90 limitation to take the test, that has nothing to do with the ALOA at all, that is a question for Ashworth and probably pertains to their policy on how long after you finish their program they are able to sponsor you for Probationary Membership status with the ALOA. $ 300 sounds like it is including both the membership application fee as well as the testing fee.

There is likely some agreement between Ashworth and the ALOA which upon successful completion of the Mandatory category 250 question examination which would grant you the RL designation. This again would be a question Ashworth should be able to answer for you.

The 250 question Mandatory Category examination includes questions on:

- Codes and Code Equipment
- Cylinder Servicing
- Key Blank Identification
- Key Duplication
- Key Impressioning
- Professional Lock Opening Techniques
- Lockset Functions
- Lockset Servicing
- Basic Master Keying
- Cabinet, Furniture and Mailbox Locks

Passing score is 70%

Most proctored examinations only let you sit once, as you have to pay a fee to sit to take the exam each time. The specific policies on how frequently you can re-take examinations you have failed would best be answered by someone from the ALOA as it is their exam.

The test that Ashworth offers IS NOT the PRP; it is the Fundamentals Exam. The RL (Registered Locksmith) designation does not require proficiency testing.
