Gauging yourself in the seduction of lockpicking

I've been learning and practicing lockpicking for around two weeks now. I've asked quite a few of my people who are advanced in the subject, however none could really tell me how to gauge my progress. I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice on when to take another step up in the monster that is lock picking. Thanks to those who reply!

I'm pretty new too it as well (3 months in). I just figured the line between beginner and novice is when you learn to tension properly and stop randomly stabbing at pins. I'm still new, and struggle, but I purposely push certain pins with a plan in mind... Even if it doesn't always work.

You are the only one who can gauge your progress; everyone builds skill and technique at a different rate. When you become consistent and confident with a basic lock, reach for something you know to be more difficult. Good with a Master #3--not one lock, but the type--then try an older American 5200 (just an example). Always be willing to challenge your ability by trying a more difficult lock to give you feedback on how you are progressing.
