Guess I was bored at work, and wanted to use a lock.

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Guess I was bored at work, and wanted to use a lock.

Slow day at work, so made a key for this lock:

Then decided I needed something to use the lock with. So made a box out of scrap Masonite (essentially, Masonite is sawdust that is glued and compressed together) and hinges.

Image

What is the box for? To protect something delicate but fun.

Tiny quadcopter and remote control.

Image

But why that extra hinge on the side where the quadcopter was, you ask? Well, since you asked...

Image

Yeah, a second nano-quadcopter.

Nothing else inside.

Size reference for the quadcopter:

OK, that is what I do when I need to find something to do. Hate sitting still doing nothing.

That lock is ADORABLE!

As are the quad-copters.

Thanks for the pics.

That is nice Gordon,
My Dad is always making stuff too, we always wish he woulda made his
projects out of better wood though, because they are sturdy and well made &
could be handed down someday, like yours

Nice re-purposing of that lock too man

Nice project, how is Impressioning (I'm assuming that was what you did) a lever lock different from impresioning a pin tumbler lock? There doesn't seem to be a lot written down about it.

Impressioning a lever lock is much easier (to me) than impressioning a pin tumbler lock.

Bill, you are correct about using better quality materials. This little box is rock solid. If not for the fact that it was just something to fill slow times, and the mini drones probably won't last a year, I'd do as you mention and use better wood. The temptation to go to the Lowe's or Home Depot (both of which are within a mile from my workplace) and get some decent wood was strong.

It's cool that you were able to use the little lock for something.

Very cool, I love it! I had one of these little quadcopters but didn't have a great deal of luck with it. Nice job on the key impression and box build, very nice :)
