Query about better handcuffs

Once an April Fools joke, now a popular addition to the forum, post your handcuff related threads here.

theres a brand called TuffKuffs. What makes them different is that their tolerances are tighter but they really shine in their ability to rotate and lock in place once applied (behind the back for greatest security) effectively making lock or shackle manipulation moot because the hands end up unable to rotate. They are similar in some ways to a rigid cuff as far as restraint theory but they have a hinge. Only thing to remember is that the person's left hand must be palm out to avoid breaking their arm when the cuff is rotated.

That's the way to do it! :)

RumballSolutions wrote:As for picking, I'm sure most pickers would figure it out eventually, but you'll break a few picks in the process. I won't give away the secret, but they are neither pin tumbler or wafer tumbler in the traditional sense. Good luck getting them apart to remove the core too!

Awww man, the suspense builds! Must... not... buy... expensive cuffs! D:

RumballSolutions wrote:Their main security is simply using a less common key format, though it is not particularly sophisticated being just a stamped key with a simple warding. The keyway is very narrow and that stamped side ward is significant enough an obstruction. That said, they can be cut from a piece of sheet steel and the side ward formed by swaging over some form of round stock (i.e. A nail).

I once saw a very nice homemade key that was gold plated and shaped like a crucifix. Would be exceptionally easy to miss on casual inspection, however standard procedure is to remove all jewellery upon arrest and prior to transport.

Wait, so are the keys for these individual for each set of cuffs, or are they the same across all models?
A gold-plated home-made crucifix key sounds amazing. This was for one of the SafLok mkIV cuffs or for a standard set of hand-cuffs? Any chance you could dig up a picture?

Keys are all the same across the models.

The crucifix key was a SafLok style key that someone had made from steel strip, then cut into a crucifix shape. I assume they used a legitimate key or an impression of one as a pattern.

It was shown to me as part of an officer safety briefing, so regrettably I have no photo. Have a look at some SafLok keys and you'll see how easy it would be.

I have a pair of Yuil Y-01 K which are chain link, double locking un-shimmable handcuffs. The double locking mechanism is designed so that kinetic attacks (slamming the cuffs on a hard surface) will fail due to physics with a ball bearing system inside. Plus the keys are a split key and the split goes through the entire cuff including splitting the ratchet arm. Plus the "K" model I have has silicone on it which is supposed to prevent people suing police due to abuse, since they are the most comfortable cuffs I have ever tried.

Youtube them, there's videos on them out there. Yuil make some great cuffs, but I have to warn you away from getting the light-weight aluminium versions since the key mechanisms are not as "high security" as the normal models. I wouldn't buy any other aluminium ones like I did their hinged ones. Nasty.

Non-aluminium models = GOD of the handcuffs, in my opinion.
Need to improve my SPP. I lose my pin position easily, press between pins, need to know which pick and when to swap.
