Abus keyways and date codes

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Abus keyways and date codes

Both of the locks above are 55/40 - but with different keyways.

Questions:

- Is this just one lock being older? (Current brochure describes they keyway as paracentric, and I don't think the left one qualifies...)

- Alternatively, does Abus (or other manufacturers?) regularly mix up keyways in their padlocks? If so, is there a reasonable way to try to purchase a lock with a specific keyway? (I don't see sellers normally mentioning keyway, so I kind of doubt that...)

- The stamped letters YG and XH are presumably date codes? Google was unhelpful, does anyone know how to decode them?

The one on the right looks like a Ruko keyway.

Went through the trash, and found the box the one on the right came in it has 10/2014 as the date - unfortunately the box for the other one is long gone.

I have two of these purchased just after Christmas from Amazon (US). Both are the same keyway as the one on the left and are stamped YH. I have the boxes but can't find any date on them. They were however, made in China.

Since you have the box for the one on the right, where was it manufactured? Perhaps they keyway varies for locks produced in Germany.

Also, I suggest shooting an email to Abus. The US division was quite helpful to me recently and actually sent me some free blanks for locks I had but was having difficulty finding the correct factory blanks for.
