Chubb Locking Bar

Thought I may post a picture of my latest acquisition, a Chubb Locking Bar. Used to externally secure doors and sometimes trunks/chests it a great lump of brass with a 5 lever locking mechanism and heavy duty staple bolts.

It was going to the scrap heap and thankfully rescued. I've given it a bit of TLC and I'm intending to make up a wooden display board for it.

It's believed to be from around the 1950s

It's a little sad to think how many nice antiques probably get recycled as nothing but scrap metal.

I have a Question about the type of chest it would've been on?

I've been told it may have been used on chests (sea chests and strong boxes), though consensus is that it was mainly used on doors as Chubb produced locking hasps with the correct key hole orientation for use on chests.
