What brand of lock is this?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

What brand of lock is this?

Postby Dasani162 » 25 Feb 2016 0:02

I am wondering what kind of lock this is and what kind of key would open it. The lock does not have any indication of a brand or anything else. Does anyone recognize the fit of the lock and any key that would open it.

I think it is made by GMS and is a restricted key lock sold by many distributors. I just toss them and put in a different keyway.

It makes some of us nervous when a first time poster has a close up picture of a lock asking what kind of key that would open it. Your question may be completely innocent, so will answer it directly. It is a pin tumbler lock, and as billdeserthills is an experienced locksmith, will have to trust him that it is a GMS lock. Certainly it is a restricted keyway.

Almost looks like a Lockwood.

Wouldn't Lockwood feel the need to stamp their name on it in big, easy to read letters?

Not sure. I bought some ASSA 600 SCD cylinders. One had no stamping at all on the face. I think you can order cylinders with no stamping on the face. But I dont think it's Lockwood. Just looked all their keyways. One is close, but no cigar.

I've noticed many restricted keys will use a side from a known key, then use a side from another less known, or made up one.
Caused me to get excited a few times, back in the 90's, thinking 'I found it!', when it turned out I had nothing

On an unrelated note, has anyone seen 'Puppy- monkey- baby'? What's up with that??

It looks like one of the Clark Security restricted keyways which are made by Ilco.
