Could this thread be made into a sticky: "combo lock resources" - and/or if it get's too sensitive due to any future posts - could it be moved into the secure forum rather than deleted.

I'll bet you a nickel though, that the original authors aren't seeing anything from that.

We should probably hold off on scanning and posting it though. I'm just starting to research this, so my apologies to any copyright lawyers out there. Project Gutenburg has a list of ways in which works can become public domain. The Art of Manipulation falls into the period 1923 - 1963, where the rules get a bit weird(er). The important question is whether the copyright was renewed 28 years after publication. If it was not, then it's public domain and we can scan / redistribute it freely. I'll look into this and let y'all know what I find out. It would be helpful if anyone has a newer copy (like the hpc edition) and could let us know if it lists the work as (c) 1955 or (c) 1955, 1983.

Incidently, LOC lists Clyde Lentz as born in 1920. A Clyde Lentz served in USMC in WW2, and his batallion reunion lists him living in PA. The directory for that town lists him and another site gives someone with that name in that town with an age of 80 in 2001. Unfortunatly, I'm too much of a wuss to call him up and ask if he knows anything about safes.

I think it's officially time for me to stop posting on this topic for a bit.

anyone notice that "the art of manipulation" is actually included in the LSS+ CD? ( http://www.security.org/lss-tour/ART.HTM ) it's unclear whether this is available to the public or not...

My bad, I owe you a nickel. Mr. Lentz isn't, but Bill Kenton may be.

So it's definitely NOT public domain, and I should stop encouraging people to pirate it.

Wow, I'm not doing so good with this. I haven't yet purchased a book on safe manipulation so I am trying to figure it out myself. No luck, I go to the correct number then to the contact points, then I go to the wrong number then to the contact points. I can't tell a difference, or even if that is what I'm suppose to do. I do not want anyone really to explain if I'm doing it right (I know how the mods get) but can someone throw me a hint?

I'll try to be as vague as possible.

Try doing the same with other wheels instead. Again, and again and again.

One wheel _has_ to show.

I ordered a copy a few days ago. I'll let you know what I think when it arrives. Judging it by its cover, I'm not holding out too much hope, but at least it was cheap.

I just got a copy of "Techniques of Safe and Vault Manipulation", do not waste your money, all it does is tell you how safes work, how manipulation works, and the how to manipulate safe using the "graph" methed (which I hear is an unnecessary method for Group 2 safes). Unfortunately, it is the only method I have to go on. Has anyone yet found a book on how to manipulate safes without the "graph" method, and without paying a fortune for the book?

i have to give a big LOL. you think u buy a book ?. and can manipulate a safe.. you better know how to fill those graphs out.!! and any book worth it;s sand, will tell ya 2 get a cut-a-way.. talk 2 me
