Ace 2 pick

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Ace 2 pick

Howdy.
I've got a homak gun safe with 2 ace 2 tube locks. Unfortunately, I left my key at the hunt club (4hrs north of home sweet home). I need to lock up my shotguns and preferably get at my other firearms without using a [redacted] and decimating the whole case and compromising the contents of the case. I've got some important documents (birth certificates, ss cards, titles) in it and I don't want to risk damaging them. I've heard that these locks are a bit difficult to pick, and I was hoping to be able to avoid buying an expensive pick or other tool. Hoping that I could do the infamous pen trick. The case is about 15 years old. Yes, I am a newbie. No, I am not a criminal.
Any ideas?
Thanks and have a good night.

As a general rule, we don't don't tell people how to break in to safes. I suggest calling a locksmith.

Unfortunately, we do not discuss picking tubular locks in the public forum since many of these locks are used in vending machines, cheap safes, and other places that secure money or product or valuables. As was stated, we suggest you get a locksmith, who should have no trouble opening it for you, and probably charge you less than it would cost for a decent pick.

To put a finer point on it, there are certain locks we talk about here in public and certain ones we don't, and sometimes that's decided based on what the lock is on.

Just as you found us using a google search, some bored teenager trying to get into his dad's gun safe can also google search and find us and our useful replies and instructions, so we can't offer advice on gun lockers, even cheap ones made by Homak, which god knows a Sawzall would make quick work of.

The others have given solid advice; calling a locksmith. The other option is taking an 8 hour drive to get the keys, having someone from the gun club mail you the keys, or buying a tubular lock pick and watching some youtube videos. Unfortunately, we cannot offer further or more in-depth help.

From one responsible gun owner to another, thank you for your understanding,
Squelchtone

My mistake guys (or gals)
Didn't know they were used in public places. I guess my best bet would be calling a locksmith.
I would call the club but 2 things. I am embarrassed that I left my keys there and I am embarrassed to own a Homak safe.

Sorry, by public we meant that we have this forum that is totally open to the public and anyone can find instructions here for doing good things like getting in their own stuff if they're locked out, but also for doing bad things if they wanted to. We also have a private area of the forum for trusted members and experts to discuss things like picking car ignitions and drilling safes, which we don't just have out in the public area of the forum for obvious reasons.

and don't be embarrassed, I'd rather have some sort of container to guard guns, than just have them sitting out on a night stand. If some meth head broke in your house, they probably wouldn't get into that Homak, or at least not as quickly as just opening a sock drawer and stealing your guns without much effort at all.

Call the club, say its for something else like I donno.. your backup piece in some other lockbox that you don't often reach for but wanted to clean it and remembered the keys are up there. no shame in that.

You could call the club, have them read you the code that is on the back of the key, take that code to a locksmith, give the locksmith good reasons to believe that it is your safe, and the locksmith might be able to cut you a key by looking up that code, or they could definitely order one directly from Homak.

There are ways to make the best of sheet metal gun cabinets: bolt them to the wall (not dry wall, instead put lag screws with washers into studs) so someone does not carry off the whole thing. If possible place the side of the cabinet where the door opens next to a wall (harder to open the door with a pry bar that way). See about hiding it (back of a deep coat closet, behind boxes in a storage area, etc.). If you have tools that can open steel cabinets in your garage then keep them out of sight (pry bars, angle grinders, tips to cutting torches, etc.)--you don't want to provide burglar tools to an intruder. If you have alarm system an intruder might not have the time to find it and open it, even if they did have the proper tools.

One other thing about bolting cabinets like this to the wall, you may need to remove the base board that is behind it to get it nice and snug against the wall before securing it to the wall.
