Let me get this story straight so I can understand better....

1. You were messing with your parents safe without permission.
2. You did so by first spinning the DIAL on a closed ( ) safe branded "General".
3. THEN you tried to use the key to open it, but the key doesn't work. Where does the key go in btw? In a lock on the actual DIAL or is the lock located to one side or the other?
4. NOW your in trouble with your parents. Pretty obvious you shouldn't have been messing with it in the first place...oh well.
5. So you come to a lock PICKING forum for help.

Did I get that story right?

1. re: Yes, I do need to understand the situation. If you read the forum rules of this site you will understand that we have no intention of helping someone who may be trying to gain access to property that is not theirs. That is our legitimate concern, and I wasn't trying to be rude.

2. There are models and brands of safes that have keylocked dials, which is why I asked.

3. You're becoming extremely defensive over a very simple and innocent question. I wasn't trying to infer or suggest anything, just trying to gain information to better understand your situation. If you feel worse for the questions I asked, then you have tried to read "tone" into it and you shouldn't.

4. Until you just told me, I did not know that you had permission to have/use the key, so relax.

As mentioned before, you shouldn't try to read tone into messages, it just messes everything up. I'm simply requesting some clarification (which I now have) and we really still need some more information especially dimensions, and preferabbly pictures of the door (lock, dial, and handle) as well as any information on the key you can provide if possible to help out.

In case you were not aware, we do not discuss the manipulation of combination safe locks, but would be happy to help you out with the key lock should you be able to provide us with a bit more info on the locking mechanism.

5. Please write in correct english. If it's quicker to write in shortened versions of words, do that, but at least write in correctly punctuated sentances and paragraphs. It really does make it a lot easier to read.

If I misunderstood your post and you actually know the lock combination, but your mechanism is stuck for some reason, then stop reading and can somone delete this post? I'd appreciate that. Thanks.
Otherwise, if you don't know the lock combination, read on...

case 1: Assuming the safe was locked when you started playing with it, then you just need to open it the normal way: enter the combination with the dial, then put the key in and turn. Your playing around with the dial didn't do anything in that case so you're not sooooo dead.

case 2: If the safe was unlocked when you were playing with it, then you locked it. Go back to case 1. I think you're not sooooo dead either since locking a safe is within the normal frame of operations of those types of security implements.

The position of the key is very important since with a key to open the safe, the dial won't be driving the lock mechanism, the key will. If the key is inside the dial it will simply lock the dial so you won't be able to turn it.
In ALL cases, if you mess with the dial, you LOCK the safe (from your first post you spined the dial several times).

All this blablabla to tell you that if you know the combination to the safe you can open it, if you don't know the combination then you can't.

my brother got someone to check it out, and he said the dialer is stuck somewhere. the only way is to call someone from the company and replace it. there is nothing we can do from outside. so i am really sorry for bothering you all. and tnxs for even thinking about it, it was really nice from everyone, even if they asked me to go to hell  (and thats if i read it with tone). and about the " i am so dead" is not that my parents are gonna get mad cus "i did it". they are gonna get mad becuse my visa docs are in it which i have to send them by tomorrow morning. i never thought it would be this complicated. it looked easier in the movies to me.
honestly tnxs all

If I can make a suggestion, it'd be useful to do a quick Google for safe lock information or have a quick read of something like the manipulation 'guide' at Howstuffworks.com;

http://money.howstuffworks.com/safecracking5.htm

This'll give you a bit of an idea about what's going on inside the lock or at the least, provide some terminology so you won't look like a fool or get ripped off if/when you pay someone to take a look at it. They might think "Woohoo - a sap. Time to overcharge!" if you start talking about the 'circle thingy'....

That aside, as a few have said, simply spinning the dial isn't going to damage the lock in any way whatsoever as spinning the dial is part of a combination lock's normal operation. Try and picture one of those Master combination locks they seem to put on high school lockers all over the US. Your combination lock is pretty much the same thing but on a larger scale. Do they break when you spin the dial a few times? No - and neither should yours.

As sojal says, try dialling in the correct combination and you're likely to get the thing open. Use the key to get the wheel spinning freely (it sounds more like a lock to stop the dial spinning than one to open the safe) and spin it 5 or six times in either direction to scramble the wheel pack and then just dial the combination. If this doesn't work for you then perhaps there really is another problem with the lock, but it won't have been because you spun the dial.

Good luck and let us know how you go.....we're rooting for you :)

Oh yeah, and this really highlights the age old mantra that you shouldn't dick around with a lock that actually provides you with security. If you want to play with a combination lock, buy one that you can afford to break.

Finally (yes its true!) the reason the tone of some posts might appear to be coming down hard on you is that we see an awful lot of posts from people who want to open things they don't own and shouldn't be touching. The more information you post to start off with, the less it looks like you're trying to pull a shifty. Give all the information you can and the 'tone' of replies is likely to be a little less heavy...

Chances are the key that you put in isn't a master key, but the key that locks the dial for extra security (small wafer lock and makes it so you can't move the dial). If the key is put directly into the dial, than this is probobly the problem. Don't mess with stuff that isn't yours.

Unfortunately, by hitting the dial you may have set yourself up for serious trouble down the road. So now you should have the safe serviced. Of course, this is much cheaper now that its open, and frankly should be part of your yearly maintinence anyway.
