Inventory, I know you hate my rants, but lookie what I FOUND !!!

Anybody remember these things? It's a Weiserbolt. This unit combines a deadbolt with a latch. During the day or so when you want it unlocked the latch goes in and out like a normal latch would. Works well. When you want it locked, you turn the inside thumb turn in the center of the knob, and the bolt extends out a full 1 1/4 inches! One hole two locks. Super idea.

So what happened to it? Last time I saw these in the catalog had to be a good 10 years ago and they were then $145.00.

Okay here is the rest. We sold quite a few of these when they were still around $75.00 - keying these units was a nightmare as this thing has a super fussy internal timing to get that bolt to extend with the key, and also to work properly. It had a tendency to jamb up when not timed correctly.

The latch plate was super large and had to be drilled about an inch and a half into the jamb. Four three inch screws held this thing on the wall. It used #3 Phillips which meant it was a 1/4 inch screw.

In the end, it was too much for most smiths to key. It was too much for the public to buy when you could have a normal deadbolt for around $10.00 or so. Just a lock ahead of it's time.

One more - this thing is basically pick proof. It uses that Weiser "E" line trick to open, and if you don't know that one this will never roll over, well the keyway will, but the lock won't.

Just enjoy something from our past, and a reminder that everything under the sun hasn't been seen - - at least in ages anymore. BUT I have one!

HATED those things! Corbin made a leverset that was similar, also a nightmare. On the Corbins the latches were HANDED, too.

I had to install the Corbin/Russwin lever ones on every interior cylindrical lock of a 19 story building and master key them and they were all IC core! Not a fun job. Very finicky to install.

Yup it was a pain to pin these things, but we SOLD quite a few of them. For that matter, I even made a 5 inch backset for one. Had to cut the latch and weld in extra strips of metal to extend the assembly. Worked well, and as far as I know it is still on the door.

Sidebar to this, several of the condos in this complex have them on their doors, installed by us, and they are happy with them. SO in a way I still service the things.

I'll see what else I got hiding around here as we clean out the unit to make room for the stuff coming down from the MIL's estate. GAD they had a lot of junk, and the wife wants to save a good part of it.

Saw some similar to that in Germany 20+ years ago, but lever handles. Think some were installed in bathroom doors, too.

Please confirm for me, as from the looks of that lock
That its latch/bolt is not deadlatching(doesnt have the little halfmoon)
And therefore really only locked(the bolt) when thrown the extra 1 1/4 inch

If im right that lack of deadlatch (which i find on cheap entrance sets ) may be why the design has fased out

Yup, the thing does not have the half moon deadlatch mechanism. When locked, it throws a 1 1/4" bolt. Deadbolt.

The reason it was dropped it got way too expensive for the public, and it was a pain for most to work on.

Before Black & decker bought out & cheapened Weiser, the locks they sold were fairly high priced, in fact they rivaled schlage.
There are still lots of old-style weiser locks in the field, they do stand the test of time. Of course the new locks sold under Weiser's
name are cheaply built trash, designed around kwikset's latches and of course the 'smart key' technology
