When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.
So, I was board. While watching GOT over again in preparation for the new season, I decided to make a duck tape pick case.
I think it turned out quite well for just duck tape. I wouldn't ever use it as I have much nicer cases. But just goes to show what you can do with very little money and very great need.
BTW: The whitish Duck tape in the middle is glow in the dark.
Fantastic idea. A lot cheaper and easier than trying to order leather, tools, research how to do leatherwork and trying to make my own case without messing it up.
I've wanted a case like the sparrows tuxedo, but about an inch wider. Might give this a shot.
It's not a bad idea for a case on the cheap/free side.
I had a Duck Tape wallet for 6 years, Got rid of it cause I was given a new wallet as a gift. That was 4 years and 2 wallets ago, I still have it, and I'm sure it would still be going if I was still using it. Now I use a bulldog clip for a wallet.
I was going to try and incorporate magnets or Velcro but opted to K.I.S.S. I can always add on a layer or two later.
That came out looking very nice. Are the pick pockets (no pun intended) individual or is it one very wide pocket? If it is one big pocket, do you find any shifting going on with the picks?

Thanks Squelchtone
There are 3 banks of 6 individual pockets (sized to a standard Peterson) and 1 pouch on the end. So 18 individual pockets and one big one for other things. I'm sure they would move around like mad if they were all just big pockets lol.

How did you make them individual pockets? was it one pocket at a time from left to right or some sort of stitching?
You should really do a tutorial with step by step photos, I bet a lot of folks would like to see that =)

It's Duck Tape, so there is no stitching. I made them individually by wrapping duck tape sticky side out around the base of a Peterson to make a tube with all the sticky on the outside. Made 18 of them and stuck them all along the bottom in 3 banks of 6 (Trifold) The last flap with the bigger pouch was only originally meant as a closing flap. But I Quickly put another pocket in it.
This was made with about half a roll of patterned Duck tape (Way smaller roll than the silver stuff). IF there is enough interest, I can make a video or a post on how to make it. Would be a good project for someone wanting to save money on a case bust still have something functional. I'm sure in the future I'll make a real fabric/leather case. But this was just something to do.
The possibilities are endless with all the different types of fantastic duct tape they manufacture. I saw quite the selection at my local Wally World. I enjoy this post and would also love to see a tutorial. Great Job!
After a welder spark induced fire in my toolbag i was just using a ziplock bag Which while i did keep my pickset together the picks kept poking thru After seeing this post i taped the bag I now have a temporary pickcase that rivals the cheap chinese vinyl cases
And as a side note Always get picks with a full handle in the plastic or rubber handle
