Jewler's chest ?

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Jewler's chest ?

Postby bitbuster » 20 Apr 2016 17:56

This is of my opinion only. I believe this is a Hall's Jewler's chest and not a military field safe as advertised. These chests are heavy and even if it had heavy duty "D" ring handles it would be a bear to move.Possibly has a direct entry lock or maybe even a Premier. Other thoughts/opinions ??

Definitely a Hall and definitely a Premier lock. I don't know what model the safe is though.

He must expect everybody to have the fancy new phones that allow you to text cash. Kind of like an ATM. :)

I take that back, after further review it does not appear to be a Premier.

The last jewelers chest I worked on was screwed into a bigger safe, it was about 100 years newer

You hit the nail on the head,BDH. I believe this chest was originally in a Hall's. "receipt from the restorer of the safe that called it a US Military Safe". That's what the restorer called it. That's what he THOUGHT it was. I still think it is an inner chest from a big arse Hall's. Field safes I've seen have the door on top and with heavy duty side mounted handles.

Most modern military field safes have a protective collar around the dial to prevent it being knocked off. It's a bit of a defining feature, like grab handles or tie downs.

Anyone know if earlier military field safes usually had a protective collar around the dial?

Pre WW2 usually no, but the earliest ones used key locks.
