What did you pick today?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Suzuki Swift / Cultus Boot Lock

Found this is a pile of parts in the badlands around my way. Pulled the lock out of a smashed up tailgate and took it home. Its only just occurred to me how easy it is to acquire auto locks. Between roadside junk, wreckers / breakers and online sales, there are heaps to be had on the cheap. Does anyone else here pick Auto stuff?

I'm sure there are people on the forums who pick automotive locks but I don't think it's something that the moderators would want people to openly talk about. Most of us are interested in lock picking as a hobby but there are some people out there that could use the information on the forum to illegally gain access to something. That's why you don't see any posts about how to gain access to one specific type of lock. There's no harm in asking though.

Im not talking about how to open them in any shape or form Powerhaus. I'm just interested if anyone else had come to the same realization as me in their cheap availability, and exploited that to keep their hobby cheap. It would be silly to think that even discussing a lock is banned, as their are no secrets there.

I have picked auto locks, but only after I can't get in any other way I have tried. Many newer auto locks are true double sided, have serrated
edged wafers and can be very hard to pick open

Bought this as a practice lock from a local hypermarket for little under 5 euros: http://imgur.com/VBmUlPy

Turned out to be extremely easy to pick. Most times it takes less than ten seconds, at best just little over a second. The bitting on the key is such that sometimes all you need to do is to insert the pick the right way and all the pins set immediately. If nothing else, this works as a nice confidence booster when some other lock is giving me hard time. :D

Picked a vintage HURD padlock today, it put up a bit of a fight, but it's open now.

picked clockwise btw.

Update: I also picked it counter-clockwise tonight, so this model can be opened in either direction.

What is the gold device in the keyway? I don't know that lock, and I want to be impressed with Hux as well...
Is that a disc lock/disc lock pick?

That's some version of the Abloy classic, or maybe a profile... He makes/designs his own disc-detainer picks for them. 8)

That brass thing is the pick that Sir Huxley Piggles designed and made. The guy is incredibly talented.

It's a beautiful big shiny Abloy Classic padlock.

The gold thing is C3P0's penis. I knurled it and now it opens most locks. :D
