dropped pins and accidentally locked cylinder

So I picked up a 0 bitted Abus 83 and I took the core out to check it out and I ended up accidentally dropped 3 of the 5 pins and in setting it down I locked it while it was missing these pins. I've been trying to pick it but I'm having difficulty I think my hook isn't long enough. Any ideas on how to get this open again?

Hi,

When you say you locked it, do you mean you pushed the padlock shackle into the closed position or was the cylinder removed from the padlock and the plug is stuck in the cylinder housing?

I did that once with an Almont. It was the second pin from the front that was missing. I made a really deep curved hook from a piece of wire to set the driver at shear line. I was lucky the missing pin wasn't further back, or I wouldn't have been able to use that technique. A pic of the cylinder will help.

If you have a piece of shim stock, you can slip it under the top pins that have bottom pins under them & just force the cylinder to turn.
It will ruin 3 springs and you'll need to force the cylinder apart, but besides the scratches the twisted springs will make on the cylinder,
no real harm will be done

If the missing pins are in the back, how are you supposed to get a shim past the springs/pins to shim the pins in the front?

Is this basically the cylinder that was in your lock?


If it is, and you locked it while it was outside the lock (which is what it sounds like), you can push the pins from below through these holes in the bottom:


I would clamp it upside down, apply some tension with your tension wrench, and push on the pins pins. Since it's zero bitted (and this the pins stack is short), you will probably be able to just push the spring, top pin, and bottom pin all up into the bible, and not even worry about hitting the shear line, but if not, it should still be an easy enough job.

Mighty has it right. One of my annoyances right now is that I don't have a clamp so working on it is getting tiring. I found a very stiff paperclip I can make into a deep hook but it looks like I need to make it a bit thinner to fit well.

press the rearmost top pin up with a bent paperclip from the back of the keyway & slide the shim in, now do the next one...
