How to use a snake rake? (not lucky on Abus 55/35)

Postby pillar » 15 May 2016 4:35

Hi :)

How do I use a snake rake?
I got snake rakes for a long time, I have some from Peterson, some from Majestic, but I never got lucky with them on my locks.
I am testing every pick I have on an Abus 55/35 three pin, one standard pin, two spools.
Meanwhile I get this piece of a joke (its not a lock) open within seconds with the right pick (rocking is fun), but not with the snake.

The first pin (standard) has to be set first and quite deep. Could this be the reason for not being lucky?

The other locks: mostly european locks, three master locks bought in EU

Quite possibly, but rakes don't often work very well on locks with spools. For locks that have more varied bitting, a bogota might work better.

Thanks :)

Another question that popped into my mind:
Is rocking working better on locks with spools compared to raking?
rocking with a city pick for example?

SPP'ing works even better! :P

I'll use an S rake to quickly put locks like Abus into a false set, then go back in with a hook, find the spool pins that are hung up and SPP it open. Same method with residential Schlage deadbolts.
