Digital/keypad lock recommendation please

Thinking of upgrading your door security? Getting a better deadbolt or padlock? Getting a new frame or better hinges? Not sure what brand or model to go with for your particular application? Need a recommendation? Feel free to ask for advice here!

Digital/keypad lock recommendation please

Postby desidude » 16 May 2016 12:28

Hello friends,

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the spring. I need some advice. A friend of mine is putting up his house on a nightly/short term rental site.

So for example, she could have tenant A stay for 3 nights and then a week later, tenant B stays for 2 nights, etc.

Instead of giving the tenants a copy of the house key, she wants to put a lock with an electronic code, that she can give the tenant, and then reset it when the tenant leaves.

This will be for the front and back doors.

She is in the Houston, TX area in USA.

Any suggestions on what to buy please?

Thank you,
desidude

this is just one lock google comes up with: http://keylessentrylocks.com/index.php? ... hgodME4LGQ

LockState WiFi DB500i RemoteLock (works with existing wifi router at the rental property)

Create codes for guest access that only work for duration of their stay.
Lock or unlock your unit remotely.
Know who enters your property and when.
Receive text alerts when codes are used.
Issue new codes or delete codes from your computer or phone
Give temporary or one-time use codes to maintenance or housekeeping staff.

Sorry for posting it in the wrong sub forum.

Thank you. I sent her this suggestion.

Are there any other cheaper options?

Thank you,

If she doesn't need it to work with a smart phone or wifi, then yes, she would have to program/reprogram the codes in person.

A much cheaper option would be a combination lock. Doesn't use batteries.

One of those locks where you press in the code. Can you see the picture?

Here is a link that you can buy it from if you were in Japan. Just to give you a better idea of what I'm telling you about.
