Abloy protect 2 backwards

Postby Francescofranz65 » 29 May 2016 6:46

Hallo to the community, i'm Francesco from Italy i have a small padlocks collection, sorry if i start already with one question, i have an anchorlas 590 padlock and i have a protect 2 half cylinder from abloy, the cam of the cylinder seems to be backwards ( in the closing position the cam is on the left but i need to be on the right position to close the padlock proprely) i try to push the little hole on the core trying to change the cam position but no way, someone can helpme? Unfortunately i brought also a protect 2 hardened half cylinder with the right ( right) cam in closing position but it does not fit the padlock because is maybe 2/3 mm longer, any help will be appreciate Francesco

Could you show us some photographs of the cylinders and their cams?

Can you insert key, and turn key until cam turns to correct position to insert into padlock body? Does AnchorLas specification include Abloy Protec2 cylinder as compatible?

Thanks,
Squelchtone

Hi, yes , the cylinder is fully compatible, the key and cylinder work well , abloy says the cam can turn in 8 different position and "sec. Sn. " in usa ( where i brought the cylinder) say thath the cylinder is backwards( i brought first the padlock then the cylinder , they should put the cam in the right position before send it to me as they know was for anchorlas paldlock anyway they told to me to push into a little hole on the core to change position with the key out but no way to change cam position....i make photo later on thanks

those are the cams as you can see in closing position one cam is backwards and dont close well the padlock, the one with cam on the right is fine but too long and i cant' close the drilling protection on bottom of the padlock!!!

EASY fix, theirs a few pins holding the whole lock together

1 - punch out those pins (the dimple part of the pin is the section you want to hit)

2- the lock will fall apart at this stage don't let it apply slight pressure on both the back and front of the lock

3- rest the lock keyhole down on a bench and gently remove the gold backing

4- remove the cam assembly and turn it upside down and replace

5- replace the gold backing and repunch the pins in ( take note you now want hit the flat side of the pin)

If you are unsure let me know and I'll try get some pics

Does that hole that is supposed to allow changing the cam position stay in the same place when the key is turned? If it does, then turn the key until you see a pin inside the hole.

I have one half cylinder thar you can change the cam orientation just by pressing in the back part. It's the inner part of the cylinder inside the cam. You press it with your finger and is sprig loaded, it allows the cam to turn. I'll look for it tomorrow and try to explain it a little better.

Cheers :)

For future reference, which solution made it work?
