Beginners Padlock

Postby PipeSmoker » 10 Jun 2016 18:23

It's been a while since I last picked a lock; misplaced my pick set and just found them. I used to be able to pick a few locks -'at least one padlock and a couple of deadbolts - with some practice but not everything I tried. The only lock I have on hand now is this Brink's; it is "jacketed" for outdoor use so a little hard to get the turning tool in there just right. And I think it may have security pins; I can't find a model number on it. I can't get the first pin, closest to the key, to set at all; I "think" I'm getting some of the others. Obviously I haven't been able to open it without the key!

I'm wondering what might be a better choice to "start over" with? I suppose something without security pins would good. I searched the forum for suggestions but couldn't find anything; probably me not knowing the right search parameters. Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated. Image

an imgur image has to end with .jpg (.png, .gif, etc) the [image] tag cannot display an HTML website that has an image embedded in it. If you right click your image and select View Image, then the address bar has the direct link to that .jpg file and the [image] command knows what to do with that.

your imgur html page link is: https://imgur.com/gallery/WIAyE which is just a link to an Album

the direct .jpg is located at: https://i.imgur.com/qTCWCPq.jpg which is a .jpg file in the album called WIAye

That's the direct address of that picture and using that address the image command can display it here.

Hope that helps!

Thank you, sir; it does! I was fairly sure it wasn't "right"' but viewing on my iPhone I have wasn't sure.

I started with a master #5 . Then a brinks Deadbolt and a brass brinks 5 pin padlock, both from Walmart. I'm pretty sure it has a single spool.

The bast thing for me was probably the ilco 5 pin mortise cylinder (drilled 6) from amazon with the C keyway and made a practice lock. The Lock, Grub screws and the tap cost about 20$. I also bought a security pin kit . It saved me money until I wanted a new keyway.

I hope this helped.
Good luck!
